The new Barry Goralnick Spencer table for Vanguard Furniture was nominated for the prestigious IDA award (Innovation in Design) for 2016. It is named after Spencer Tracy (all the pieces in our Vanguard collection are named after movie stars). The 48″ diameter Spencer Table is the perfect size to complement larger sofas and sectionals. All the interest occurs under the glass so you only need minimal, if any, objects on the top. You’re not always moving things around to set up to entertain. It makes dusting easy.
There are two unexpected inspirations for this table. A vintage holder of nuts and bolts from an old hardware shop served as an inspiration (pictured below). The idea of this form transformed into the concept of a table. The finishing touch is the hardware screw-head detail on the top of the “fins”, which evokes the popular Cartier Love Bracelet. This is the kind of elegant jewelry detail that ties this table into the rest of the collection.
The Spencer is available in every Vanguard wood finish and any Benjamin Moore paint color. The metal accents are satin brass as pictured.

Califolio, Michael’s collection for Theodore Alexander includes clean lines, modern shapes, softly tailored upholstery and well scaled occasional pieces accompanied by unique finishes and a color palette which communicates the light airy style of southern California living. The combination of finishes in the collection is much like its inspiration, a perfect mix of glamour and simplicity. “To dress the collection we’ve selected lush textiles that cool the skin, warm the heart and dazzle the eyes,” adds Berman. “Each piece is designed to be used individually or in a suite of furnishings. There is a thread that runs through this collection that incorporates my modernist influence and credo: restraint, quiet luxury and effortless comfort.”
